Auschwitz Birkenau and Wieliczka Salt Mine Tour
The programme includes tour to Auschwitz Museum and Wieliczka Salt Mine. It is a perfect choice for people who want to visit these two most vital places in the surroundings of Krakow in one day.
Firstly, we'll take you to the Auschwitz Museum for the guided tour in former concentration camp in Auschwitz Birkenau.
We enter the former camp of Auschwitz by the gate with the inscription Arbeit macht frei. The path reaches the exhibitions' buildings with the private belongings of the prisoners gathered there. Further on the camp in Birkenau consists of a series of wooden barracks built by the prisoners. There is no exhibition there but the originally preserved camp site.
After a visit to the camp at Auschwitz Birkenau you will be driven to Wieliczka Salt Mine (apporx. 1,5 hour drive, depending on the traffic).
Wieliczka Salt Mine is regarded as one of the seventh Polish wonders and it has been on UNESCO World Heritage List since 1978.
It's a guided tour upon which you visit 20 chambers connected by 2 km of corridors on three levels underground. 380 steps lead down the stairs to the first level (64 m below, approx. 210 ft) and the lift will take you up from the lowest level (135 m, 440 ft) in the end of the tour. The temperature underground is always 14 Celsius degrees, the air is cool and belived to have a positive impact on health.
The tourist route leads through the underground chapels, caverns and caves where you can admire sculptures and chandeliers made from the salt crystals. The greatest of the underground chapel is that of St. Kinga where magnificient chandeliers and sculptures made of grey salt are exhibited.
On the third level there is found a thematic park with a very interesting collection of old mining equipment and mineral craft collections.
Two-hours excursion gives only a glipms of the whole labyrinth hidden undrground.
For a tour to Auschwitz Birkenau and Wieliczka Salt Mine we'll take you directly from the place of your choice in Krakow at approx. 9.00 AM. After sightseeing return to the place of accommodation or the place of your choice in Krakow.
